Located in the southernmost area of the Philippine islands with over 20 million people and rich cultural assets from history, Mindanao has been the tragic blood-shed land of conflict for the last four centuries, caused by the experience of colonialism and religious incongruence.

peaceThe 400 years of colonial period threatened lives of the Moros (Muslim people in the Philippines). Clearly, to the people of Mindanao, the last land for the Moros as a result of the history of loss of land, armed struggle that occurred in the 20th and 21th centuries is the matter of survival with their identity as Muslims against the vast majority.
The armed conflicts with organization of religious principles in the Philippines began to prevail since the 1960s. Despite both national and international efforts to make peace agreement, the conflict continued for over 40 years, which only left the devastation of land with bloodshed of 120,000 lives.

The peace process is still in progress. Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), an organization founded to achieve autonomy of the Moros and their self-determination, finally agreed to establish the Bangsamoro Basic Law which guarantees peaceful co-existence among the people in the Philippines.
In 2015, the HWPL International Peace Committee was established with law experts in world, with the goal of achivement of world peace through the international law for peace. Mr. Al-Hajj Murad Ebrahim, Chairman of the MILF, said at the HWPL Peace Summit,

hwpl“We too in the Bangsamoro in Mindanao in the Southern Philippines share this vision of achieving peace and justice. Last March 27, 2014, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) signed the historic Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) with the government of the Philippines to end the more than four decades of war and conflict in the Bangsamoro Homeland. This peace agreement, our modest contribution to World Peace is a product of eighteen years of hard and persistent negotiation. The peace advocacy of HWPL led by Chairman Man Hee Lee in Mindanao, Philippines particularly in the cities of General Santos, Zamboangga, Cagayan de Oro and Buluan, Maguindanao contributed greatly towards the promotion of peace in our country. Chairman Man Hee Lee’s visit sends a very strong message to our people that we are not alone in our search for genuine and lasting peace.”
