Having been deeply involved in peace-building efforts in both the past and the present, India is the proud birthplace of many great peace advocates throughout history. Yet there are still unresolved conflicts internally, as well as with the states it shares borders with, blocking its passage to fully achieving peace. Therefore, individuals and communities wanted to fix this current status quo in peace-building from the grass-roots level.
In response, they organized several peace walks and educational activities for Talk and Walk to Prevent Violent Extremismin New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Hyderabad, India. Globally, a wide array of peace-promoting events were held as part of the 4th Annual Commemoration of the Declaration of World Peace. These peace-promoting events in the month of May could not have had more critical timing as global acts of terrorism and violent extremism continued to haunt citizens on a daily basis.
Authorities at the Indian Heights School had a determined and passionate mind and interest in encouraging their students to become active proponents of peace. After putting in considerable thought and effort, the principal and teachers organized the Peace Awakening Event in collaboration with HWPL staff. Dr. Farida Khanam, a professor at the Jamia Millia Islamia University Center for Peace and Spirituality, was invited to be the main speaker for this special occasion
This special lecture and discussion aimed to go beyond superficial topics and boundaries. Like the rest of informed citizens, students at Indian Heights School were all aware that violent extremism in the form of terrorist attacks, racial discriminations hatred and others take place globally on a daily basis.
Also, as a participant at the HWPL WARP Peace Office, Dr. Farida Khanam made sure to challenge the bright students of Indian Heights School to think about what drives these perpetuators and terrorists to commit such atrocious and unjustifiable actions.
“People commit violence due to ideas they have been taught.”said, Dr. Khanam. “These wrong, corrupted leaders teach young men, if they kill others, throw bomb, or commit suicide bombing, they will go to heaven or paradise, but it is wrong. It is not the teaching of any scriptures in religion”. Religion, which should have been a source of hope and peace, is instead utilized by a small group of religious leaders to shape and drive people to take extreme measures and hurt others.Shedding a light into the reality we face today, Dr. Khanam and students saw the importance of instilling ideas centered on peace instead of violence. Indeed, spreading a culture of peace to prevail over the culture of violence requires everyone to “make peace on earth together regardless of any race, nation, religion, and culture”.
Peace Initiative: Law for Peace
Peace Project: Legislate Peace Campaign
Ever since its launch, the Legislate Peace Campaign has called on global leaders and citizens to voice their positive demand for the implementation of a law based upon the principles of the DPCW. As the campaign to receive the signatures of support through advocacy meetings continues to positively influence and empower the younger generations, we are getting one step closer to developing the DPCW into a legally binding document with peace as the core principle of international relations.
RUSSIA – Krasnoyarsk State Medical University students gathered to support the Legislate Peace Campaign.
REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA – “We stand for peace” A festival for establishing a culture of peace in De Waal Park, Cape Town was joined by amazing peace lovers.
PALESTINE – A discussion on the activity plan of the HWPL Peace Advocacy Committee was held in Palestine.
GEORGIA – In Georgia, peace pieces drawn by students are being displayed in classrooms and hallways, showing their wishes for peace.
PHILIPPINES – Art contest in Museo Dabawenyo; Peace Conference supporting DPCW in Maluso, Basilan; HWPL International law seminar and “Color your dream of peace” in Bethel Knox School; Conference for spreading a culture of peace in Mindanao.

Proclamation of the Declaration of World Peace
The Heavens and the Earth formed by the hands of the Creator have been given to humanity as an inheritance. In all the universe, life in its vast splendour exists only on our world. The life that grows on the earth is sustained from above – by light, by the rain, and by the air they provide unconditionally to all living beings. We have received the precious gift of life from above, let us give glory to heaven, and live in peace on earth. This is the truest teaching of heaven.
With this eternal gift – the grace and life we have received – are we entitled to fight, kill and destroy one another? We cannot claim to desire peace and continue to provoke one another, causing conflict for the sake of valuing our own national interests above those of others. This will only take the lives of the youth, wasting them in the futility of war. This is not a legacy we can leave to future generations.
Of what use is a young life, born in our day and age, if it is thrown away in this manner – thrown away without having had a chance to bloom? What price can compensate for the loss of a life? Do these young souls have another chance at life? As emissaries of World Peace; as people who are working towards the restoration of humanity through a new and heavenly culture, we declare the following:
We call on all youth to unite in an effort to stop wars and pursue the restoration of peace by agreeing not to fight one another. For World Peace to become a reality, this is the duty of all youth, everywhere.
The only way to stop the fighting and pointless, tragic deaths, is to stop fighting. Nobody can ask for anything greater than this, and know that your efforts – the efforts of the young people of the world today in pursuit of peace – will remain as a never fading light of life for all future generations.
Furthermore, we call on every person, every man, woman, and child in the world, to pick up the mantle of peace. In whatever way you can, we ask that you work to further the cause of world peace and restoration, making it a reality in your direct environments.
Lastly, we call on the media to report responsibly and promote a message of peace to the world.
World peace and restoration has begun at the same time this declaration is proclaimed.

‘Let us make a world of peace for our future generations’
Participants at the yearly Commemoration of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) held in Seoul on March, 14.
The first yearly Commemoration of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) held on March, 14, when 1800 participants gathered in Seoul for Advocacy of International Law for Peace. Faced with the reality of uncertainty in global cooperation, triggered by a chain of political upheavals from the Brexit to elections in the United States and European states, a new approach to pursue an international peaceful order was discussed.
In commemoration of the DPCW proclaimed on the same date in 2016, the forum reaffirmed the importance of global peace movement currently on progress under the Legislate Peace Campaign to establish the principle of international law for peace through the introduction of a UN resolution based on the DPCW.
Chairman Man Hee Lee of HWPL emphasized that peace building “is not an individual task,” but “is relevant to everyone” as a common purpose of the global community. He offered the role of religion as a bridge builder of peace, rather than the core of conflict and violence by adding “our orientations must be one for peace. Whether religious, secular world, there is no exception.”
In the progress report, Dong Min Im, the secretary general of HWPL, explained the significance of peace projects in HWPL by saying, “The work is to put an end to war in our globe and make a foundation of a world of everlasting peace, which is unprecedented in history.” He continued, “The solution to peace is all of us becoming messengers of peace.”
Bup Hye Kim, chairman of Buddhist Central Council for National Unification, offered a picture of concrete action plans of HWPL in achieving peace. “Youth and women are the main scapegoats in war, but even in this reality we must face the fact that youth and women are voluntarily standing at the forefront to build the foundation of peace with HWPL,” he said.

Peace cannot come by the toil of one person but by the understanding and responsibility of all
Yes, I agree on this idea of peace. Peace can’t come by the toil of one person. The people on the globe should be the messenger of world peace and work for cessation of war, world peace with the same mind and the same will enthusiastically.
After receiving inspiration from the WARP Summit 2016, the summit participants began to organize advocacy forums and signing campaigns in their respective countries to spread peace messages and to gather more peace supporters.
The advocacy forum held in Elite Plaza in Yerevan, Armenia on November 17th brought together a total of 62 figures including 6 political parties, social representatives, leaders of religion, women, and youth organizations to develop the environments for peace in the country as well as around the globe. To accomplish this, they focused on the question of why Armenia should support the DPCW.
Participants first shared about Armenian history, which left the people with a lingering sense of anxiety caused by the political and diplomatic instabilities starting from 900 BC. Reflecting upon the necessity of the implementation of an instrument that encompasses all nations, they then shared the principles of the DPCW which addresses the issue of conflict resolution based on preventing war-related behaviors, safeguarding religious and ethnic identities, and encouraging a culture of peace through international cooperation.
Rt. Hon. Hrant Bagratyan, the former Prime Minister of Armenia and an HWPL Peace Advocacy Committee member said, “The forum and discussion sessions went very well. It helped people’s understanding about the Declaration,’ and “the document fully corresponds to the wishes of Armenians.”
At the WARP Summit, he had said, “The DPCW will be a good instrument against extremism, terrorism, war, and associations that will be a good base for the sustainability of peace. And together we should create a pressure on that to have this declaration law adopted by the UN.”
15 international press agencies have covered and broadcasted the Armenian advocacy forums through 17 different reports. One of the news companies also wrote that “The successive forum is already being organized which may open in mid-December with the follow-up measures of participants. HWPL expects more of this kind of forums in many nations, the organized movement by the figures who promised to take action when they go back to their own homeland.”
¶ Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War, Stepping Forward to a Law for Humanity
HWPL initiated an International Law for Peace and Cessation of War as a solution to bring about peace to humanity and an instrument to dispose of all means that initiate war and armed conflicts. Representing the collective wish of people from all walks of life – HWPL’s initiative to international law for peace is a powerful and ground-breaking tool which will enable worldwide enjoyment of peace. Gaining global support, united in one voice, women and youth are at the forefront of urging for the presentation and implementation of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War through the Advocacy Committee.
Legislate Peace Campaign & the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW)
The Legislate Peace Campaign is a global peace advocacy movement which aims to bring all wars to an end and spread a culture of peace by establishing an enforceable law compatible with the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW). The strength of the DPCW lies in its representation of the voice of all those yearning for peace and calls on States to protect their rights to enjoy peaceful lives.
Thus, we call on global citizens to unite as one to voice the positive demand for peace by adding their signatures to the Legislate Peace Campaign. We appeal to citizens to encourage their local governments, including city mayors, state governors, as well as heads of state to write letters of support for the DPCW with a spirit of a deep-seated love for the people of their country. Finally, we call on world leaders and governments to develop and enforce a law based on the principles of the DPCW. When such a law is truly followed by all countries and peoples, our world will soon have peace and the cessation of war. Let us Legislate Peace. Sign Your Support.
